Presentations are the core of all sales efforts. The data your sales team creates is only as effective as the binder that carries it. Sharp presentations require sharp looking presentation binders. Below are a few options that work well with any presentation.
Some items to consider when picking out the perfect binder for your presentation:
Round Ring vs. D-Ring.
Round ring mechanisms are just that, round. These are the least expensive mechanism to purchase and the most widely available. They work well for most applications. Some things to keep in mind with this economical ring binder:
- Larger round ring mechanisms (2", 3",4",5") do not allow paper to lay flat when opened
- Tend to bind the paper as each page is turned.
- Might open if the binder is dropped allowing documents to come loose from the binders
The D-Ring mechanism is more expensive and is flat on one side, thus creating a D-shape.
- Allows documents to lay flat when the binder is open.
- Enables the user to turn the pages more easily.
- Less prone to open when dropped and does not typically allow documents to fall out.
Cover Size
One thing to keep in mind with binder size is the actual size of the binder cover. As the diameter of the ring mechanism increases, the width of the cover will also increase. What that means to the user (or the client receiving your presentation):
- The binder will extend farther out on a shelf.
- If limited by doors or narrow shelves, 3",4" and 5" binders extend past front edge of shelf
A solution to this is to put material into multiple smaller binders and then utilize one of the many label solutions to mark the spines of the binder.
Premium vs. Economy
One of the most obvious differences between the premium and economy binder is the price. Economy binders can be as much as 50% less expensive than premium binders...but the user should be aware of what they may lose in the selection. Premium binders typically have:
- Thicker binder board material (material under the cover).
- Stronger ring mechanisms or double lock mechanisms.
- Male/female connection between the ring halves to help line up ring when closing
- Double lock mechanisms have to go through two "clicks" in order to be opened or closed
- If dropped, binder may open "one click" but will not open to second stage, thus keeping your documents secure
- Thicker vinyl cover with more finish options.
- Reinforced hinges (area of the binder cover that connects to the binder spine).
- Concealed rivets (fastener that holds the ring mechanism to the binder spine and cover).
